A palpable tension has gripped the residents of Jos, the capital of Plateau State, following a rumour making the round in the city that some people were planning to disrupt today’s sallah celebration, even as the security agencies in the state threatened to deal ruthlessly with anyone who foment trouble during the Eid-El Kabir celebration.
The Special Task Force, Operation Safe Heaven through a statement signed by its Media/Information Officer, Captain Charles Ekeocha, had placed an embargo on the use of two praying grounds, Rukuba and Polo, to avoid a replica of the unfortunate incident that characterised the sallah celebration of August this year.
As part of its efforts to ensure a hitch-free Eid-El-Kabir celebration, the State Police Command in conjunction with other security agencies had decided to block some routes within the state capital to both pedestrians and motorists to avoid clash between Christians and Muslims.
According to a statement signed by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Emmanuel Ayeni, and made available to Sunday Tribune, Abattoir, Jos would be blocked and people were to follow Dogon Karfe through Old Airport junction to the praying ground.
Also, Polo Roundabout, Jankwano, Gada-Biu, Farin Gada and Rukuba Roads would be blocked while all vehicles illegally parked at strategic locations would be removed and impounded by the security agents.
