Wife of the President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, on Friday announced the postponement of the 2013 World Cyber Security Conference initially slated for Tuesday by her office.
She said the postponement was necessitated by the recent death of her foster mother, Mrs. Charity Oba.
The postponement was contained in a statement made available to journalists by her spokesman, Mr. Ayo Osinlu.
The statement read, “This is to inform all invited guests that the 2013 World Cyber Security Conference slated for Tuesday, July 30, has been postponed due to the tragic loss of the foster mother of the First Lady, Patience Jonathan.
“The conference is being organised by the Office of the First Lady, in collaboration with the International Multilateral Partnerships Against Cyber Threat, Nigerian Communications Commission, the National Information Technology Development Agency and New Horizons Nigeria.
“The First Lady was recently appointed as the ITU-IMPACT Child On-Line Protection Champion by the International Telecommunication Union.
“The conference is expected to raise an awareness on the new role of the First Lady as the Child On-Line Protection Champion and build international support for her expected role. A new date will be announced later.”
Mrs. Oba died on Monday in an auto crash in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
