President
Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday effected a minor cabinet reshuffle with
the Minister of State, Power, Mr. Darius Dickson, and Minister of State,
Niger Delta Affairs, Mrs. Zainab Kuchi, swapping positions.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and
Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, told State House correspondents after the
Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Goodluck
Jonathan that the redeployment would take effect immediately.
According to him, Dickson will move to the Ministry
of Niger Delta Affairs as Minister of State while Kuchi takes charge as
Minister of State, Power.
Abati said, “The President gave two major directives
at the council today. The first is the swopping of positions between two
ministers.
“He directed that the two ministers should swop
positions with effect from next week. The Minister of State, Niger Delta
Affairs and Minister of State for Power. In that regard Mr. Darius
Dickson becomes the Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs and
Minister of State Niger Delta, Hajia Zainab Kuchi becomes Minister of
State, Power.
“The second directive has to do with the submission
of memos with regards to contracts. The President made it clear that no
fresh memos for contracts will be accepted by council after November 30.
So effectively, November 30 is the deadline for the submission of any
memo under the 2012 budget.”
Dickson has been in charge of the Ministry of Power
since the resignation of the former minister, Prof. Barth Nnaji, in
August over an alleged vested interest in the ongoing privatisation of
the Power Holding Company of Nigeria.
