Subsidy scam: Police arrest Capital Oil MD

The police have arrested the Managing Director of the Capital Oil and Gas, Ifeanyi Uba, in connection with an alleged N22.4bn fuel subsidy scam.
Uba was arrested on Tuesday by the Special Fraud Unit of the agency in Lagos on the orders of its Commissioner of Police, Tunde Ogunsakin.
The oil magnate was said to have gone to the command along with a team of lawyers.
Uba had been indicted alongside other marketers by the Presidential Committee on Verification and Reconciliation of Fuel Subsidy Payments led by Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede.
Uba had previously debunked media reports linking him with the subsidy fraud, saying it was propagated by disgruntled persons to smear his image.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SFU, Ngozi Isintume, confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspect was presumed innocent until investigations proved otherwise.
She said, “I cannot really say much for now because he is currently being interrogated by detectives. Ifeanyi Uba was arrested because of his alleged involvement in the fuel subsidy scam.
“We are still investigating the case so I cannot say if he would be released at the end of today (yesterday). He was indicted by the presidential committee on fuel subsidy verification.”
