Katsina Builds House For Nigerien Governor

Governor Ibrahim Shehu of Katsina State has commissioned a new residence built by the Katsina State government for the governor of Niamey Region in Niger Republic.
The house, which is named Katsina House, costs N60 million (200 million CFA).  LEADESHIP WEEKEND learnt that the decision to build a new residence for the governor of Niamey was prompted bygovernor Shema’s desire to provide an edifice befitting of a governor, for his Niamey counterpart coupled with the fact that the old Government House was in a bad shape.
At the commissioning ceremony in Niamey, Shema called for collective efforts in addressing security challenges between the two countries. He said that the task should not be left to the government alone.
He said the security of life and property is an essential ingredient of development, stressing “that the citizens must be ready to play their part in ensuring sustainable peace.
“Collectively and as individuals, the onus is on us to support the government and security agencies with vital information that will help strengthen security in our two nations because there cannot be progress without security,” he said.
The governor emphasised the need for unity between Nigeria and Niger Republic, noting that the two countries have so much in common.
“The Nigeria-Niger Joint Commission has to be strengthened so as to ensure proactive measures in the security of life and property,” he said. He lauded the commitment of President Goodluck Jonathan and President Yusuf Mohammad of Niger Republic in ensuring security in the two countries’  border towns.
He insisted that appreciable success had been made in tackling challenges of trans-border security between Nigeria and Niger and noted that with the support of the citizens; a lot could still be realised.
The governor had earlier visited President Yusuf Muhammad of Niger, where he reaffirmed the determination of Katsina State government to sustain its partnership with Niger Republic.
In a related development, the governor of Niamey Region in Hajiya Aishatu Bulama Kane, has commended the wife of the Katsina State governor, Hajiya Fatima Ibrahim Shema, in her support for the less privileged.
Kane, who hosted Mrs. Shema in Niamey, said her efforts were worthy of emulation and pledged that Niger Republic would partner with the Katsina State first lady in providing succour to women and children in the border towns.
“I must single out Katsina State first lady’s untiring efforts in assisting the less privileged in the state and those at the neighbouring villages because this support has continued to alleviate the suffering of many.
“We shall partner with her in every way to ensure that we improve the living conditions of our people,” she said, noting that her support for VVFG patients and the provision of economic empowerment incentives for women were virtues worthy of emulation.
