ABUJA—A member of the Federal House of Representatives, Chriscato Ameke Ikechukwu, yesterday cried out that his constituency in Anambra East and West had been submerged in flood.
Anambra East and West Federal Constituency of Anambra State appears to be the worst hit by the flood emanating from water released from one of the dams in Cameroon, torrential rainfall and other sources of water in Nigeria.
No fewer than one thousand people have been rendered homeless and are taking refuge in neighbouring communities, making life unbearable for them, while property worth more than  N1 billion were reportedly destroyed in the catastrophe.
Relating this in an interview with journalists in Abuja yesterday, the member representing Anambra East/West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chriscato Ikechukwu , demonstrated with video footage how several communities within the area were totally submerged in the flood which started on September 1, 2012.
The House of Representative member expressed concern that apart from being rendered homeless and reduced to mere refugees in their fatherland, hunger and starvation had become the lots of the people of his constituency.
