INEC Begins Printing Of Permanent Voter Cards

The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, has said that by the end of 2013 every registered voter in the country will be provided a permanent voter card.
Jega, who said this yesterday, in Abuja, while receiving participants of International Training Seminar on National Security, disclosed that already, his organisation had taken first delivery of 40 million card readers out of the 70.5 million registered voters captured in the last general election and assured that the rest would be received before the end of 2013.
He admitted again, that the 2011 general elections fell short of people’s expectation but said that compared to other previous elections in Nigeria’s political history, the 2011 general election, to some extent was satisfactory.
“I know that some people out there were not satisfied with the outcome of the last general election but looking at the various parameters, when you compare the elections we conducted in 2011 to the various elections in the past, from 2003, you will know that the 2011 elections were far better,” he said.
