11 die in Benin-Sagamu Expressway crashes

NO fewer than 11 persons died in two auto crashes on the Benin-Sagamu Expressway between Saturday and Sunday.
This came less than a week after four lecturers of the Igbinedion University, Okada, died in an accident after their car plunged into the Ovia River on the same highway.
Eight lives were lost in the first accident which involved a Delta Line bus, on Saturday, around the Ore, Ondo State intersection, while three others died in a second accident on Sunday in the same area.
The second accident involved a bus belonging to Edegbe Line, a Benin-based transport company.
The crash reportedly happened when the driver of an oncoming vehicle lost control, resulting in a head-on collision with the commercial transport liner.
Causalities in the two accidents were said to have been deposited at yet-to-be ascertained hospitals’ morgues, while survivors who sustained various degrees of injuries were taken to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
Survivors, who were taken to UBTH however had to sleep on the floor of the Accident and Emergency Unit for lack of vacant bed spaces.
National Coordinator of the Save Accident Victims of Nigeria, Dr. Eddy Ehikhamenor, decried the frequency of accidents on the Benin-Sagamu Expressway, and called on drivers plying the road to exercise caution while driving.
“The roads are always very busy during the ember months,” he said.
