The Commissioner, Yobe State Police Command, Patrick Egbuniwe, has confirmed an attack on a military convoy in Damaturu, the state capital, on Sunday by a suspected suicide bomber.
Egbuniwe, however, did not give the number of casualties.
But sources said that the suicide bomber, who was parked by the roadside, rammed into the military convoy as they moved around the troubled city.
Not less than five soldiers and the suicide bomber were reported to have died.
Egbuniwe said: “The incident occurred this morning when some military personnel on routine patrol suspected a particular vehicle to be carrying some dangerous weapons.
“They tried to stop the vehicle before the occupants, who are suspected Boko Haram members, ignited an explosive which killed two of the suspects.”
