Ochinke who addressed newsmen yesterday at the NUJ press center insisted that the map which the National Boundary Commission and the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission presented in the case were hurriedly forged three days before the apex court judgment.
According to him, the map presented by the government agencies was not the recognized and approved map of Nigeria, which showed all the oil wells situated within the natural maritime boundary of Cross River State.
“By this forgery, the federal government has dangerously exposed and compromised the security sensitivity of the country, so that neighboring countries like Equatorial Guinea and Cameroun have now begun to lay claims to the wrongly adjusted maritime line”, he said.
“The Cross River estuaries have been left ajar thereby making the country vulnerable to be seriously at risk of international maritime manipulation, justifiable claims by neighbors and foreign military occupation”, he stressed adding that the state has set up machinery to see how the Supreme Court will review the judgment, which he said was not acceptable to the state.
“We are hopeful that the judgment would be overturned because there are many other options and open clauses provided by the apex court”,he said.
The Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) will meet on Tuesday to resolve difference with the 11 Northern Governors over establishment of state Police formations in the country.
Chairman of Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi who disclosed this said that 31, state governors including 19 Northern State Governors initially supported the call for the creation of state police.
Amaechi, spoke this on Friday night in Port Harcourt, at a forum organised by the Federated Correspondents’ Chapel of the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), adding that he did not know why governors from the 19 Northern states withdrew their support later.
