As debates continue on the proposed removal of immunity clause from the constitution, former Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Thursday canvassed the need to include the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives among beneficiaries of immunity in the country.
Musa also supported the retention of immunity in the constitution, saying removal of immunity for the president, vice president, governors and deputy governors, would distract them from doing the works they are elected to do.
“I don’t think it’s good to remove the immunity clause from the constitution because the president and governors need the immunity to be able to perform their functions without fear. In fact, I am also advocating that the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives should start to enjoy the immunity like the president and governors.
“All criminal and civil matters against them when they are in power should wait until they are out of power. Some Nigerians behave cowardly and that is why they want these people prosecuted when they are still in power. I am saying that these people one day will leave power and they can be prosecuted,” Musa said.
