The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) has attributed the delay in payment of civil servants salaries in the various Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for April 2012, to the late disbursement of allocations from the Federation Account, following late meeting of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).
A statement from the OAGF, made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday noted, “It has come to the notice of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), that, civil servants in the Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) have not been able to access their April 2012 salaries. Part of the reason for the delay is due to the late holding of the FAAC Meeting.”
The statement received by telephone from the Assistant Director Press, OAGF Hassan T. Dodo said that the introduction of new software which was meant to facilitate easy payments also contributed to the delay in payment of salaries.
The FAAC meeting for April 2012 held Friday, April 20, 2012, in which the three tiers of government shared the sum of N613.697 billion.
The fund-sharing meetings of the FAAC usually hold by the second week of every month, chaired by the Minister of State for Finance, to disburse funds for the previous month.
Salaries of public sector workers at all levels are paid after these allocations, which also constitute the largest source of funds for government projects.
Over three weeks have elapsed, since the salaries of civil servant s ought to have been paid and it is not yet certain whether they would be paid this week.
President Goodluck Jonathan had at the end of the Federal Executive Council meeting on January 4, ordered that civil servants be paid their salaries on the 20th of every month.
When asked when the salaries would likely be paid, Dodo simply said: “It would be paid soon.”
Dodo said that in respect of the above, all the role players in the MDAs have started collecting details of those concerned and returning same for immediate assistance and follow-up with their respective banks.
