Edo murder: ACN govs visit Oshiomhole

L–R: Governors Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Lagos; Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Ekiti; Adams Oshiomhole, Edo; Ibikunle Amosun, Ogun; and Abiola Ajimobi, Oyo, during a condolence visit to Oshiomhole on the assassination of his Principal Private Secretary, Mr. Olaitan Oyerinde, at the State House, GRA Benin, Edo State... on Sunday.
Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, and other governors elected on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria on Sunday visited Benin to condole with their Edo State counterpart, Adams Oshiomhole, over the assassination of his Principal Private Secretary, Mr. Olaitan Oyerinde.
Oyerinde was murdered on Friday morning by yet-to-be-identified assassins.
A statement by the Special Adviser on Media to Fashola quoted the Lagos governor as describing the murder as shocking and cruel.
“We have come to sympathise with you and the people of Edo State over this very sad and unfortunate incident. We condemn the spate of violence that is manifesting in the run up to the governorship election in this state,” Fashola said.
Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola said politics had been reduced to materialism by those who have nothing to offer.
He said, “What is happening in Nigerian today in terms of insecurity and violence across the country is a manifestation of the failure of governance.”
The governors also visited the widow and children of the late Oyerinde to express their condolences.
Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, described the deceased as very articulate and hardworking.
In his response, Oshiomhole said the visit had further strengthened him to continue serving the people of Edo.
Oshiomhole said the murder was part of a plan by the opposition.
He said he had briefed the Commissioner of Police on the plan, noting that the murder of Oyerinde came 48 hours after his meeting with the police boss, adding, “So there is no doubt that Olaitan was assassinated.”
Other ACN governors on the condolence visit were the governors of Ogun and Oyo states, Ibikunle Amosun and Abiola Ajimobi, respectively.
