Drama at SFU as Police Interrogate Saraki

A mild drama occurred Thursday at the Police Special Fraud Unit (SFU), Milverton Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, when former Kwara State Governor, Senator Bukola Saraki, appeared before the police detectives over an alleged N9.7 billion fraud.

Saraki, who is representing Kwara Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, had appeared before the SFU in Abuja over the same case file. 

The mild drama started when the senator, who had arrived the SFU unit at about 11am, but was  shielded away from journalists.

Saraki who came in a convoy of three black vehicles, a black Mercedes Benz Jeep (GL 450 4matic), with registration number CH 165 RBC in company of his aides was quizzed by investigators for over two hours before he was left to go home at about 1.20pm.

At this point, he was also not allowed to speak to journalists. During his hours of interrogation, journalists had thronged the office of the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the unit, Ngozi Isintume, a superintendent of police (SP) to await the ex-governor.

However, things turned the other way round when Saraki was about to leave and the personal assistant to the Commissioner of Police SFU, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, a commissioner of police (CP) came down to lock the same office the journalists were in.

However, while the attention of the journalists and cameramen were otherwise engaged while the office was being locked, Saraki was allegedly smuggled out into his awaiting vehicle by his aides without journalists talking to him.

Although the outcome of the quizzing was not disclosed, Ogunsakin said the matter would be charge to court soon and judgement passed.
