Zamfara: Firefighters retrieve 6 bodies from well

TRAGEDY struck in a small village of Marke of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, when men of the state fire service retrieved the bodies of six people who were trapped in an old well that was abandoned for many years.
An eyewitness told the Nigerian Tribune that because of water problem bedevilling the community, the villagers resolved to rehabilitate the old well.
The source said some able men in the village were assigned to do the work and on the first day, the work went on fine.
However, when they resumed work the second day, the source said an elderly woman advised them to leave the site, because she sighted an unusual creature around the well on the previous day.
Sources contended that they refused to heed her warning and the two of them entered the well and failed to come out. After several hours, the Nigerian Tribune learnt that a volunteer decided to enter the well to rescue the two men inside and he also got trapped in the well.
Source further maintained that three other volunteers in succession entered the well and all of them were also trapped.
The fire services, who were contacted to retrieve the bodies of the men trapped in the well, finally succeeded in bringing out the corpses of the six deceased men.
At the time of filing the report, the six deceased had since been buried according to Islamic rites.
