PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has condoled with the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, over the death of his father, Igwe Mathias Ekweremadu.
In a statement made available to newsmen, Jonathan, on behalf of himself, the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria, commiserated with Senator Ekweremadu and the entire Ekweremadu Family of the Anekeoji Mpu autonomous community of Enugu State.
The president urged Senator Ekweremadu, his siblings and other relatives to take solace in the knowledge that Igwe Ekweremadu lived to a grand old age and, in passing on, left many worthy and exemplary legacies for his children and members of his community.
Also, the Senate President, Senator David Mark, described the death of Igwe Ekwere-madu, as a painful loss.
Mark, who received the news of the death of his deputy’s father in Kampala, Uganda, where he was currently attending the 126th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference, described the late Ekweremadu as “a compassionate ruler, whose actions were guided by the fear of God.”
According to him, the peace and development witnessed during the reign of the late Ekweremadu in Anekeoji Mpu was a mark of his attributes as a disciplined and honest ruler, who left no stone unturned in achieving the desires of his community.
He urged the Ekweremadu family, the people of Anekeoji Mpu and Enugu State to be consoled by the good quality of leadership which the late Ekweremadu bequeathed.
