Explosion rocks Katampe power station

A blast rocked a power transmission substation, located at Katampe, in Abuja, on Monday night.
The incident happened at about 7:07 p.m at the station, located on Kubwa-Suleja expressway, Fede-ral Capital Territory (FCT).
Sabotage was, however, ruled out, as security sources said the incident had nothing to do with bomb explosion.
Nigerian Tribune heard loud bang from some of the transformers, as well as a thick smoke at the scene of the incident.
The sound sent panic across persons close to the station, as it was not unconnected with the alert by the United States (US) government that terrorists were planning to attack FCT.
Some persons were sighted around the facility, with some cars parked around there at the time of the incident.
Their mission around the facility could not, however, be ascertained at the time of this report, but speculation was that they were
staff members on duty or mere road users.
Information made available to the Nigerian Tribune had it that the facility was a 330/132KV transmission sub-station.
According to the information, the facility was being managed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) as the implementing agency for the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP.)
The source said the facility had increased the capacity available to Abuja from 300MVA to 450MVA.
