A 35-year-old man was charged before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court on Monday for allegedly attempting to steal on the Eko Head Bridge in Lagos with a plastic toy gun.
The accused, Uchenna Isaac, is standing trial on a two-count charge of attempt to commit felony and stealing.
Uchenna however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Philip Ugbodu, told the court that Isaac, who was living at Pako House, Jones St., off Apapa road, Ebute Meta, was unemployed.
Ugbodu said that on March 16, the accused had used a plastic gun in demanding money from one Mr Waheed Jimoh, owner of a Toyota Camry car.
He said that the accused had at gun point ordered Jimoh to surrender all his possessions.
The prosecutor told the court that as a result of the traffic caused by the action of the accused, the police was able to catch up with him unexpectedly.
He said that upon examination, it was discovered that the gun was a plastic toy gun.
Ugbodu said that the offence contravened sections 328 and 404 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State.
Magistrate Patrick Adekomaya granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties.
Hearing in the case would begin on April 23
