KANO—Unknown gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram members Monday,  attacked the private residence of Imo State Commissioner of Police in Kano State,  amid reports that three policemen were feared dead during the incident that triggered exchange of fire between the policemen and the attackers.
The residence is located at the Chiranchi Quarters. The exchange of gunfire caused pandemonium in the neighbourhood as residents and passers-by scampered for safety.
Kano State Police Command, however, confirmed the killing of only two policemen as well as the injuring of two others by attackers.
The affected area has been cordoned by the police for stop and search in a bid to arrest the fleeing gunmen.
Violent attack on security personnel has gained currency in recent weeks as no fewer than five officers had died since the January 20 bombings in Kano which left about 186 residents dead.
Initially, Mr  Majia confirmed the shooting, but declined further information on the casualty figures, stressing that the area has been cordoned for possible arrests of suspects.
Meanwhile, the Kano Police Command has denied arresting the spouse of a suspected Boko Haram sect leader, Ahmad Shekau.
