Wamakko sworn in, promises to implement minimum wage

The newly elected Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has assured the civil servants in the state that his new administration would not hesitate to commence the payment of N18, 000 minimum wage by end of March.
Wamakko gave the assurance yesterday shortly after being sworn in alongside his deputy, Muktar Shagari by the state Chief Judge, Justice Aisha Dahiru at the Trade Fair playground in Sokoto.
He said his new administration would run an inclusive government, while civil servants would enjoying the new minimum wage by next month, adding that: “I will do everything possible to justify the confidence reposed in me by the people of the state during last Saturday’s governorship election. The overwhelming victory we witnessed at the poll shows that, there is no doubt that our victory is from Allah,” he said.
Wamakko also pledged to be fair to all in the state irrespective of all differences. He reiterated the willingness of his administration to carry all stakeholders in the state along in his administration.
According to him: “I will remain focus in addressing the problems of the people of the state which we have encapsulated in our blueprint for the development of Sokoto State. We will welcome constructive criticism, while discharging our constitutional duties,” he said.
Earlier in his address, the acting governor of the state, Alhaji Lawal Zayyanu urged the governor to be proactive in tackling the problems of the state.
“We thank God for the peaceful conduct of the election and I wish to urge all those who vied for the governorship position with Wamakko to support him to move the state forward. What we need in Sokoto is unity and understanding,” he said.
