The family of late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu on Monday expressed discontent with Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, over the body’s inability to pay the bereaved family a condolence visit since the death of the ex-Biafra warlord.
Late Ojukwu’s wife, Bianca, who spoke for the family in Enugu, noted that the it was unfortunate that Ohanaeze also failed to visit her husband while he was hospitalised in London for 11 months.
She said, “My husband was a dedicated member of Ohanaeze but even at that, the group has not even bothered to find out the arrangements for his burial.”
She spoke when the Conference of Democratic Scholars and members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo visited her in Enugu to inform her that an international colloquium on the Ahiara Declaration in memory of Ojukwu would take place at Ahiara Mbaise, Imo State on February 17, 2012.
On the Ahiara Declaration Document, the late Ikemba’s wife explained that it did not need to be upgraded or refreshed, insisting that it had continued to remain as fresh as it was in 1967.
She said, “The document was for determination of hope, not just for Biafra but also for the black man anywhere in the world.”
