Hours after the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) lost their member representing Anambra West Constituency to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State, another lawmaker, Mrs. Rita Maduagwu, representing Nnewi South 2 Constituency, yesterday followed suit by Defecting to the ruling APGA.
Maduagwu said her decision to join APGA was driven by her motivation to serve her people better and that APGA was the best platform for achieving that.
According to her, the developmental strides of the state Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, also played a major role in her decision, as she wanted to be part of the winning team in order to fully actualise her mission for her people.
Welcoming her to APGA, Governor Obi, described the two days where the party received two ACN members as special and noted that it was always better to be in the winning team for maximum benefits.
Obi described Maduagwu as an APGA member at heart, given her progressive disposition.
“The more progressive people come into our party the more we chase out the unprogressives,” Obi stated.
He said rather than embark on an elaborate celebration to mark the event, he had decided to mark it by flagging off a big project in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area, 30 days after the burial of Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu.
Also welcoming the new member, the chairman of Nnewi South Local Government, Mr. Titus Anigbogu, said his local government had taken the lead by producing seven House of Assembly members, while poised to capture the federal house seat for Anambra South.
The event was attended by Governor Obi; his commissioners and other cabinet members, as well as party members led by the state chairman, Mike Kwentoh.
Maduagwu’s defection brings the total number of APGA members in the house to 16, reducing that of ACN to three.
