FG, UK working on counter-terrorism strategy

National Security Adviser, Owoye Azazi
The Coordinator, Counter-Terrorism, Office of the National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen. Sarkin-Yaki Bello, says Nigeria will soon evolve a strategy to counter acts of terrorism in the country.
Bello said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria at the end of a seminar on fighting terrorism organised by the National Defences College in Abuja on Tuesday.
He maintained that the strategy would take into consideration, the peculiarities of challenges faced by agencies of government in the country in fighting terrorism.
According to him, Nigeria has been working with the United Kingdom on the project for some time now.
He said, “We are evolving our own strategy. No country has the same strategy. In making a strategy, most especially on counter-terrorism, you look at your domestic environment; you look at the international environment.
“You look at many factors – some of them peculiar to yourself alone – and then you come out with a strategy in order to confront the challenge; and that is what we are doing.
“Very soon, I am sure Nigeria will have a strategy to counter the menace of terrorism in this country.”
Bello said the various interactions organised by government agencies on counter terrorism in Nigeria was useful in the battle to tackle terrorism.
