Abubakar resumes as IG

Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar
The acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, assumed duties at the Force Headquarters, Abuja on Thursday.
Abubakar, who got to the Loius Edet House around 12.30pm, inspected a guard of honour at the gate before proceeding to the 7th floor office of the IG where he spent over two hours with his predecessor, Mr. Hafiz Ringim.
Addressing journalists after the handover, the acting IG declared his readiness to combat crime in the country and corruption within the Police, pledging to lead by example.
He promised his administration would be different from previous ones, saying every policeman would be involved in battling crime in the country.
He said he would take the training of policemen seriously, adding that a state of emergency would be declared in all police training institutions across the country.
Abubakar said, “We shall all fight crime and criminalities together, whatever name you give it, Nigeria is our country, lets join hands in solving the problem facing us.”
He said he was not new to the challenges before the police, adding that he would want to be briefed first before unveiling his plans.
He said, “I’m indeed delighted today, may the Almighty God see us through. I don’t have enough speech because I’m taking over. I want to be fully briefed about the challenges and the difficulties facing the NPF today. I’m not a newcomer and I cannot run away from it but I do know the fact that we have a very challenging task and I want to assure all Nigerians that this administration will be different from every other administration because every officer and men of the police belong to the same family.
“We shall go every nook and cranny of this country and do what is expected of us in fighting crime. This administration will not tolerate any act of indiscipline, corruption and I intend to leave good example.
“Training is one programme we are lacking. We are giving police college and training institution a very serious challenge to be able to train officers and men of the police force.”
