Prostitution Bill: We will reject it -Hon. Yusuf Galambi

Days after the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, urged the Senate to legalise prostitution in Nigeria, a member of the House of Representatives from Gwaram Federal Constituency in Jigawa State, Honourable Yusuf Shittu Galambi, has spoken against the call, urging Nigerians to pray against the passing of the bill.
Alhaji Yusuf, who is also the vice chairman, House Committee on Power, described Ekweremadu’s call as shameful and reckless.
“For any leader to allow sentimental reasons to becloud his judgement on the eradication of immorality among Nigerians,  passing the bill will be  a disappointment to Nigerian people.”
He described Nigerians as a people who respect their religion and cultural beliefs, “as such, we dissociate ourselves from the Deputy Senate President statement.
“As legislators, we ought to know our limit, especially utterances that could affect our religious and cultural beliefs.
“Prostitution is a social ill to growth and development, it is prohibited by Islam and Christianity, therefore,  we owe a duty of fighting it with vigor and prayers because it breeds immorality, evil and crimes.
He said that, instead of legalizing prostitution, a  commitment should be made to the people and God by discouraging such evil acts.
He assured that  members of the House of Representatives would vote against the bill even if it is smuggled into the house.
